"~ Purple Papaya ~ exceeded our expectations and beyond! This is truly a slice of paradise. The goal was to relax and rejuvenate and that is exactly what happened. From the hosts quick and helpful communication to ease of check-in, to our warm welcome from Tarictia who insured our every need was met, to the beyond clean and cozy home with everything we could possibly need, to the serene pool and (basically) private pink sand beach - everything was perfect! Purple Papaya has everything you need for comfortable living including all of the kitchen necessities which we used often thanks to the recommendation of the host to bring dry food (the food on the island is expensive - next time I would bring even more food from home). There is nothing better than making a dinner and enjoying it to the sound of the waves! The space was immaculately clean and well kept - everything looked new and not worn. The bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of pillows, linens, towels, beach towels, etc. We also took use of the snorkling gear provided (there were also other beach toys and an umbrella for use). We spent most of our days lounging by the pool and taking walks down the pristine (basically private) beach or exploring the rest of the island. One thing we would recommend is renting a vehicle capable of handling rough terrain as several of the roads are not paved and very rough. Tippy's restaurant is right next door which was great for a quick lunch or dinner outing. As mentioned, the food on the island is expensive - including dining out - we spent around $70 US on lunch and over $100 US on dinners for the two of us. Also to note - if you are sensitive to late night music, Tippy's did have a live band 4 of the 9 nights we were there that ended around 10:30/11:00pm. If you are sensitive to this or an early/light sleeper, you may want to check out the Golden Chalice two doors down. Overall, I would say the Purple Papaya is by far the best Airbnb we have stayed at and would highly recommend it!"

"The location is amazing - wake up every morning to the sights and sounds of the ocean and beautiful pink tinged beach, and see the sunrise by simply stepping outside. Hardly a soul on the beach in high season while at the same time, right next to arguably the best bar/restaurant on the island, Tippy’s. Couldn’t ask for anything else. The house is pleasant, modern and clean - we absolutely loved staying here. Deck is great for morning yoga, too. Taracita is the local manager for the properties and is lovely, helpful and kind. She and her daughters also make colorful straw baskets which make great Bahamian souvenirs. When can we come back?!"

“When you 1st walk in the view of the most beautiful beach is right at your doorstep. The photos you see are exactly what you can expect. A nicely appointed, well cared for home, with all the comforts of home. They’ve thought of everything. You’ll never have to leave here once you arrive. We never turned the AC on as there was always a nice breeze day and night from the proximity to the water. We slept with the windows open at night and fell asleep to the sound of the waves gently crashing on the beach. Having Tippys Restaurant a minute away is a bonus. Be sure to try the Spare Ribs & Coconut Shrimp. The wonderful, hardworking Ms. Tarictia is minutes away and always making sure you have everything you need. Shooting Star has already thought of everything you need. All you need to do is show up. Highly Recommended.”

"Fantastic beachfront property. The place was larger than we expected and completely up to date and well cleaned (coming from a clean freak!) We dined in a fair amount and the kitchen could have a few extra utensils and extras spices (bring or buy spices beyond salt and pepper if you need them) but had enough for us to cook. Beaches are excellent with a low amount of foot traffic, we never felt the need to travel to other beaches. The outdoor shower, three beach chairs, beach towels, and dipping pool were all nice touches to an otherwise well equipped spot. Governors Harbour, with groceries, gas, restaurants is a short drive away. WiFi access is available and, while occasionally spotty, was good enough to stream video. Never had any issues with power going out. We will absolutely be coming back here in the future!!"

"This little yellow house could not be situated any closer to some of the most beautiful water you will ever see. We enjoyed having breakfast each morning on the deck overlooking the beach. It was a bit windy most of our stay except for two out of five days which were the perfect days to snorkel out front of Tippy’s next door. The pool area and outdoor shower are a nice features although the pool was too chilly for me to handle venturing in. My husband used it a few times. The home has all you need, is clean, modern and well appointed. We cooked breakfast in every day which was a nice convenient option and helped saved money as the food in Eleuthera is extremely expensive. If you’re looking for a VERY quiet island with friendly locals, this is the perfect place to enjoy it from. We could not have asked for a better location."

Above and Beyond All Hopes and Expectations

“From the breathtaking eastern views from the pool to the ocean, to the attention to detail in the villa, one of the most relaxing enjoyable getaways we have ever taken. Trying to figure out how soon we can get back. OK, for all you folks that want the details: From the end of the back sliding doors to the ocean is about 50 ft. We have never seen, nor stayed in any place this close to the water. All the amenities provided are pretty much brand new. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud with total back support. We made dinner in a couple of nights and found all the utensils and cookware needed. Did not need the A/C at all, just kept one of the ceiling fans running and one of the sliding doors partially open. Large walk-in shower with plenty of hot water and very good liquid shower products provided. Nice linens and towels. Read complaints about noise and proximity to Tippy's next door but a total non issue!! The villa is totally shielded from Tippy's by tall vegetation so privacy is not an issue. As far as human noise, the ocean waves and breezes are louder. The white sand beach extends easily over 2 miles in each direction and easy to walk. There is seaweed present mainly at the high tide line. The water is crystal clear and the waves are amazing to watch as they break over the reefs. As far as swimming, bottom is rocky with sand in some areas. It was very windy (10-15+ E, SE winds) during much of our stay with rough seas, so we enjoyed the beach time vs swimming and snorkeling. As far as beach traffic...there is none. You will see a person here and there walking the beach but that's about it...at one point we looked north and south on the beach (about 4 miles total) and counted 6 people, by far the most crowded we saw the beach. Most of the time there was no one in sight! However, no place is perfect There are flies...not biting flies, just nuisance flies... present everywhere on the island. We were told they were worse in the summer. As far as mosquitoes after dark, not bad, you will need bug stuff. We brought our own, but it is also provided. Internet and cable provided, it was like we never left the USA. However, it will go out on occasion when you least expect it, not much the owner can do...it is an island in the ocean after all...but be prepared...it will come back on. If you can, bring some of your favorite food items...the selection on the island is limited and expensive! Well that's about it.”

“If you are hesitating about booking, don’t. Book now! Most relaxing vacation we’ve had in a long time! A few tips: grocery shop for breakfast and lunch and eat at Tippy’s for dinner. We only rented a car for 2 days to get groceries (Burrows is by far the better stocked store, and the food truck beside it is awesome!) and it worked out perfectly— though we didn’t feel like exploring the island and were happy to lounge by the pool and walk along the beach. Kitchen is super well equipped—coffee machine, blender, microwave, toaster, etc. Bring insect repellent, good books and your set!”

“A little slice of heaven on earth. We absolutely loved our visit to Eleuthera and our stay at Purple Papaya. From the moment you pull up, you’ll be amazed at the color of the turquoise water. Rhonda (the local contact, realtor, property management) met us there upon arrival and helped us get settled in. Purple Papaya is a well appointed, perfectly sized for two villa that combines just the right amount of solitude yet convenience to everything. The decor is contemporary yet still tropical. The island is stunningly beautiful as is the area on which this place sits. You do have a restaurant on one side (again convenient) and two houses on the other side of you, but the houses are situated so that your views are still wonderful. A few people from the restaurant would occasionally walk on the beach behind our house but all the beaches are public so this could happen anywhere. It was mostly still very private and serene and was always gorgeous. We did have lots of seaweed washing ashore during our visit (which was an issue on all of the Atlantic side), so the beach didn’t look exactly like some of the online pics BUT it was still gorgeous and the views are stunning regardless....and, of course, there is nothing this owner or any other can do about Mother Nature. In fairness to other readers, I will mention that they were having an issue with the flickering lights in the house during our stay. The pool was also having some issues getting completely clean (appeared to be a filter issue maybe), but the owner was extremely apologetic and polite and very prompt in sending someone over to try to rectify the pool issue. Honestly, the water was too cold for my taste (colder than the ocean imo), so I wouldn’t have gotten in it anyhow. It is the perfect size for two to sit in and enjoy the view, though, so I’m sure it’s great when the temps are right and it’s clean. We just went over to the Caribbean side for swimming...which was great! (Oh and by the way the house includes the use of snorkel gear so no need to rent unless you want fancy or custom fitting. My feet were too small for the fins but I just skipped them...one snorkel was missing its clip...but again, these were just an added bonus and we enjoyed the masks and snorkels several times during our stay.) As far as snorkeling goes, there are lots of great places...we didn’t try it right behind the house, though, so I can’t speak to that. For us, the Atlantic side (and the three Birds of Paradise houses in particular) are PERFECT for your stay (great breezes, gorgeous views and a little less buggy)...and then you can day trip to all the other beaches on the island (of which there are many) for swimming, snorkeling, shelling, etc. This place is so beautiful, though, that you may want to save your last day —like we did— for eating leftovers and just enjoying the beauty from your own villa. It’s a studio type villa, so you have unobstructed views from your bed, living room, and kitchen. We loved it here and would absolutely stay again. We went to all the resorts and restaurants located in Central Eleuthera during our stay, and we took a day trip North and another one South. While some of the fancy resorts were great for visiting and dining, they did not compare overall to having this little place all to ourselves. You are RIGHT ON the beach. If we were to do it again, we’d do it just the same. Be prepared to rent a car (preferably 4x4) when visiting Eleuthera; get a map and be ready for some adventurous day tripping; don’t expect a ton of nightlife but do go to the local Friday night fish fry for fun and laughs; eat fine dining at 1648 & Buccaneer (breakfast, lunch and dinner) or at La Bougenvillia; burgers are awesome at The Deck; and have drinks, meet people & hear live local music next door at Tippy’s. Ten Bay, Double Bay, Twin Coves are all amazing nearby beaches as well as a few others we stumbled upon and don’t know the names. Take a day trip to see Queen’s Bath and the glass window bridge but get up early...it’ll take longer than you think. But as for places to stay....stay here. It was central, gorgeous and private without being too secluded from everything. I have no doubt the owner will address the issues we personally had with the lights and pool. This place is great... Book it and you will NOT regret it.”

Perfect setting to hear the waves gently crash into shore through the double slider doors. Beautiful views of the Atlantic and the small infinity splash pool gave us a quick cool-off without getting sandy. The beaches are virtually secluded- we rarely saw any people, so if you’re looking for modern amenities

 

 

and some peace and quiet, this is the place for you. We stayed during low season, so the restaurant next door was still closed- which might have been to our benefit. Otherwise, I had hoped that more restaurants in town would have been open by mid-October, but we made do by cooking in a few nights. Also- if you attract bug bites like I do, watch out for the “no-see-ums”, as locals call them. Early dawn and dusk is when they are at their worst, and those buggers are brutal! I got hundreds of itchy red bites- rubbing alcohol and Anthisan cream helped! My husband didn’t get a single bite. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and loved the cottage!

This was my 8th trip to the island. By far this was the most amazing place I've stayed. Absolutely no complaints! Lots of room. The kitchen is well equipped, and we cooked a lot. The pool is fantastic to jump into after being out of the beach, and the fact that it's not heated is a bonus--when you first step in it seems a bit cool, then you realize how refreshing it is! And this place is right on the beach. You can sit on the top deck in the sun, or the lower deck (as we mostly did) in the shade. You have house, deck, pool, beach and ocean. Just amazing to have them all so close together. The bedrooms are large, and both have their own bathrooms and access to the top deck. Plenty of towels available. Only 5 minutes from Governor's Harbour. This time of year, October, many places are closed, but the water is so warm! We went twice into town and got fresh fish straight from that day's catch and cooked it that night! There were TVs everywhere but we never once turned them on! There in internet music available to play in all the rooms plus on the back deck. Anyway, I can't say enough. I'll definitely be back.

"I can't begin to explain how wonderful this place was. The location was majestic. The house is constructed with the highest quality. The amenities were beyond exceptional. Press a button on the control panel, you have music throughout the home, curtains close with a push of a button, new high-end appliances and even the ironing board was high end! They left nothing out. Highly recommended! The only downside was we went during September and the tourist spots for eating are all closed until October 15 I think."

"The property is incredible and our stay was better than we ever expected! Built last year, it's stunning and has good quality furniture. Would absolutely recommend to anybody looking for an upscale beach house with modern amenities right on the beach. Breathtaking views. We loved the 2 master bedrooms overlooking the beach both

with en-suite bathrooms. Kitchen fully stocked which allowed us to cook every day. Laundry facilities were great. Snorkel sets, beach umbrellas and an abundance of beach towels were gratefully included. Wifi worked perfectly - good enough for Netflix. A/C was strong and available in every room. It was very hot during our stay so the dip pool and loungers in the shade were amazing. The beach was pristine with pinkish super fine sand. Some snorkeling just outside on the beach (watch out for the rocks!). Governor's Harbour is just 5 min drive across to the other side of the island. Groceries are available at the gas station there. North Eleuthera and Rock Sound airports are about 45 min drive away in opposite directions. Easy drive. Our host Rhonda was INCREDIBLE. She checked in on us daily and gave us insider tips. She is available via (Hidden by Airbnb) 24/7. One of my guests cut herself on the rocks in the ocean and Rhonda was over in a flash to help. Everything about our stay exceeded our expectations. It's a perfect place to spend time relaxing and admiring the view. Do not hesitate to book this property! Also there are 2-person bungalows, one on each side of the property, owned by same owner, which is a great option for larger groups."

“This was the most amazing vacation of my life. my wife and myself rented the purple papaya for 5 nights for our 10th anniversary. I was perfect. everything about the cottage exceeded every expectation. the pool is amazing, the location is amazing. The decor, the layout and the amenities were 5 star at a fair price. staying at the purple papaya was an awesome chance to see how the other half lives. Rhonda was a tremendous help. The views are unbeatable. the beach is quiet almost private with the softest sugar sand I have ever walked on. the water is clear with a beautiful

reef full of life a very short walk south. I highly recommend these cottages to anyone looking to disconnect and

unwind. it was the ultimate relaxing vacation. Trust me you will not be disappointed. ”

"My husband and I were looking for a peaceful place to get away from the grind, and Golden Chalice checked all of the boxes. The beach was steps away, and what a beach. Beautiful, pristine pink sand and crystal clear water. There is even snorkeling gear you can use to see the beautiful fish. A manta ray came up behind me on our first day. Beautiful. You also have a great plunge pool with infinity edge overlooking the beach. We ended every evening overlooking the beautiful beach with a Kalik and glass of wine in the plunge pool. Tippy's is right next door, great little island restaurant, fun environment, live music on Saturday nights. They only serve lunch and dinner, and they are closed Mondays so you will probably need a car at least a few days of your stay. You will need some breakfast items and of course, Kalik and wine :). The guest directory has recommendations for car rental places and grocery stores. Aside from Tippy's, we ate mostly at 1648, we thought the food and service were excellent. Joe sent us an email before our arrival with all of the info needed, and Rhonda was very friendly, always available and checked in on us a few times. The house has everything you could ever think of, and when you open the curtains to that beautiful view, you swear you have gone to heaven. If you are looking for a peaceful place to unwind and relax, look no further. We will be back!"

"This is hands down the best rental home I have rented anywhere in the Bahamas. The pictures don’t do it justice either. First, the owner makes the booking process easy and he’s very explanatory. Next, the house is immaculate. It has no weird smells, mold or grime, random animals and it’s stocked with every thing you can think of from kitchen utensils, to snorkels, extra towels and blankets, etc.. Additionally, it is a smart home and has all the features you can imagine. The property manager Rhonda is amazing and the location with pool are to die for.

"The house, its amenities and the rental process is 5 stars. Governor's Harbour is a good central location for exploring the island and the town (although small) has just about everything you need for your stay.
We met the owner of the house, got the rundown and were left to our privacy. The house has tremendous air conditioning, a huge TV, is super clean and has a perfectly sized kitchen and a great infinity pool on the edge of the beach. The beach is nice, but we never did swim in it as there are so many other beaches we explored on the island that we'd just come home and jump in the pool.**If we were to come to Eleuthera again we'd, however, opt for the little yellow house which is part of the Bird of Paradise collection on the same beach. The Purple Papaya is right next to Tippy's (a restaurant/bar) and, although, there's only a small amount of noise the yellow house is just as convenient to the restaurant, but not right next to it and has nothing on the other side but a long empty beach. "

"We ❤️ Purple Papaya!!! This place is incredible. The space is nearly perfect for a couple - everything you need and the pool is ideal for two. You literally spend the days and nights on what is basically a private beach. It’s beautiful, clean and stylish - almost brand new. The unit has sliders that accordion open to a huge expanse that lets you see and hear the ocean. And then the kitchen is perfect for making quick meals to stay isolated on the beach. We stayed 6 days and ate in two of them - we wish we had stayed in for 4. If you eat out, try 1648 at French Leave and ask for Donn. Tippy’s is literally next door but not for us, it wasn’t great. We made a day trip to Harbour Island but I would stay at Purple Papaya that day instead if I had a choice. OK so stop reading this now and book it! You won’t regret it."

Great house that is very nice, well appointed, open view of the beach/ocean and all just 50 yards to Tippy's and 5 minutes to Governor's Harbour. King bed, nice open bathroom w/walk-in shower (body soap, shampoo & conditioner provided) quality towels, full kitchen (w/out oven, but who cares?!) A/C works great, ceiling fans, great pool, outdoor shower, open deck space, outdoor

dining table/chairs, pool lounges, deck chairs...I'm telling you, it's perfect. 
The pictures and YouTube video of the property are accurate...the place looks just like them.

(maybe even better) Owner is wonderful to work with too; timely communication, no problems whatsoever.

"My husband and I booked Golden Chalice for our honeymoon. First off — the house and view are absolutely gorgeous. Better than any of the pictures, and this house is definitely the most private of the three. The house has all the amenities you could want: AC (though we never needed it), indoor and outdoor shower, central speakers you can control from your phone, all the kitchen equipment you could want, and beach gear. The one thing that would make this place perfect, amenities-wise, is a way to do laundry. There are amazing ocean views from literally every part of the house, and we woke up to watch the sunrise from our deck most mornings. We did have a small weather-related issue that required some repairs to the pool and deck during our stay. The property manager and team alerted us in advance of our arrival and we were able to compromise so that we were able to enjoy some alone time at the house for most of our time there. It did require a bit of shuffling/dealing with guys working right outside our door a few days, hence the 4 stars instead of 5, but everyone was very responsive and apologetic about the situation and we tried to be flexible since that’s part of renting a house v a hotel room...I wouldn’t anticipate this as an issue if you plan to stay here. Everyone was great to work with, including Rhonda the property manager, who gave great local recommendations and even brought us engraved newlywed champagne flutes. Even with the bit of unexpected construction drama on our honeymoon, I would book with Bird of Paradise again myself and/or recommend them to anyone. The house was as better than advertised and the view/beach is incredible. Thanks to Joe, Tom and Rhonda for everything!"

"We have stayed in many beautiful villas in the Caribbean, but none can beat over Purple Papaya. A winning combination of value and beauty, it's like having your own beautiful tiny house right smack dab on a stunningly beautiful beach. Feeling salty from the ocean? Just rinse off with refreshing dip in the cottage's own gorgeous infinity pool. Need a cocktail? Grab one from your own fridge or visit Tippy's, a great restaurant next door. And do not worry about noise or privacy. The gorgeous palm trees and other plantings give you privacy and the restaurant is not noisy except for one night when there is a fun band (which closes down around 11pm. We were concerned about this because we like quiet, but, honestly, it was a non issue. We plan to choose this same cottage next year. The owner is a visionary who put his heart and soul into these cottages and it shows. And, when you book a stay you will experience personalized service from beginning to end. You can't go wrong and might consider coming with two other couples and renting all three cottages.

Words cannot do justice to the Purple Papaya. You just have to book it and go there to understand. The views of the sand and the ocean from the living room were something out of a dream. Waking up to that everyday was something special. The cottage is literally on the beach, you walk off your porch and you are on the beach, swimming in the infinity pool and watching the ocean was something I will never forget. We were on our honeymoon and wanted something secluded with a pool and beachfront and this was perfect within our price range, which I am still pinching myself that we found this. Pretty much brand new, clean and all the amenities you need for a romantic getaway. Just be aware that it is a 5 min drive to Governor's Harbour so having a car to get around is essential, especially if you want to explore the island. Rhonda the manager is great and will help you out with anything you need. This is hands down the most amazing Airbnb experience and can't wait to get back. The worst part about this place was having to leave. Thank you for making our honeymoon so memorable and our friends back home so jealous of our photos from the porch.

“We had a fabulous time staying at Shooting Star! We loved waking up and being on the beach by 7:30 (yes, we have two young 6:30 risers - even on vacation lol). The kitchen had everything we needed to complete our breakfasts, as well as make lunch sandwiches. The house provided beach chairs, beach toys, storage containers, map of the island, paper products, lots of towels, dish soap, laundry detergent, and all liquid shower products which was greatly appreciated. Tippys is a one minute (at most) walk but we never experienced any issue with this. Not even on their popular Saturday live music night. At one point I could hear a faint beat of a bass when I used the restroom on Saturday (I was really trying to be aware of the music since I know many have expressed concern regarding the proximity to the restaurant/bar) but as soon as I left the bathroom I no longer heard the beats. This truly was a non-issue of us. Otherwise, the only sounds we heard were those of the waves and wind. The location is ideal, especially for first time visitors as you are centrally located and can easily/quickly access a gas station, food mart, restaurants, and the yummy fish fry. Every sunrise was spectacular. There was another couple in the other house but we only saw them while strolling the beach. Our last thoughts are venture down to Buccaneer Club. We felt the food and service was far better than Tippys and more reasonably priced. Enjoy your Eleuthera adventure!!”

"My husband and I stayed for 8 nights in January. We loved the house. The view, beach and pool were beautiful. The interior was spotless and very nice. I was a bit worried when i heard that the house is directly beside Tippy's parking lot, but there is shrubbery so you don't even see it. And the waves crashing keeps you from hearing anything. We actually loved the fact that it was besides Tippy's, especially my husband, we spent several nights there and made some great friends! Also we loved the location on the island, very close to Governor's Harbour.

We would definitely go back. Rhonda was awesome."

"After staying in a "resort" 5 min away from the beach for 1 day, we realized that we need to live on the beach if we spend the time and money to travel to Eleuthera! So, we checked into Purple Papaya for the remaining 5 days. It is a brand new house that can sleep for 2 adults (and 1 kid). This property has all amenities, except an in-house laundry. Beautiful ocean view, superb pool and access. I will be posting pictures when trip-advisor offers a link to add pics. We found and booked it via airbnb. We received excellent response and service from the local staff whenever we needed any help. We had the best time - going to the beach several times a day, as it was exactly as shown in the pictures - just hop out, and you are on the beach. Loved every minute staying there, and moving about. Highly recommend this. Also, sharing a valuable lesson - when you spend so much, don't go by ratings - go by real pictures - that show whether you are getting real access to the beach, or real views. This property was perfect for us!"

"Staying in this cottage was the perfect vacation for me. It was directly on the beach, the views were incredible, the water was warm and crystal clear with a coral reef right in front for effortless snorkeling. Pink sand, palm trees, barely a passerby, it was like having your own private beach. There is a nice beach front restaurant and bar 2 doors down with great fresh local fish and a fun atmosphere. You can walk to stables to horseback ride on the beach. Also nearby is a nature preserve, bakery/gift shop and a fine food/wine shop and cafe. There is plenty to do on Eleuthera if you can tear yourself away from your wonderful private cottage and beach - it was hard to leave.

I would love to go back to this very special place!"
